21 Artists has led on evaluation, research, theory of change development and art interventions on a number of projects in collaboration with partners since 2017.

The Programme is intended to support collaborative inquiry and bring about changes in the partnerships themselves and in their communities. Through collaborations with these partnerships, the aim is to build sustainability and approaches to monitoring, evaluation and systems-thinking.
EVALUATION & IMPACT
The Agency is a creative entrepreneurship programme for young people 15-25 led by Battersea Arts Centre, Contact and People's Palace Projects. This report evaluates the interim roll out programme expanding the programme's reach beyond London and Manchester to Cardiff and Belfast as well. Read the full report here.

In April 2022, evaluation commenced for The Living Studio, an experimental initiative to activate visitors' creativity through having a public making space inspired by their exhibition on at the time, The Artists' Studio. In 2023, we took on the evaluation for Escape the Slick, a co-created exhibition with the young people's collective, challenging conceptions of galleries and who they're for. RESEARCH
Finding Friends is a strand of work as part of Test Valley Borough of Culture, focusing on barriers to engagement with ethnic minority communities in the Test Valley region of the UK. 21 Artists led on the community consultations with key stakeholders in the borough to offer recommendations to improve engagement and agency of these communities across the borough.

In April 2021, LIFT embarked on an exciting new pilot project called Concept Touring, working with artists and mentors from around the globe to explore how artists could tour their work and collaborate without having to be physically present in these places. 21 Artists led on evaluating the impact of this programme, with a publication released December 2021.

ZU-UK was recently awarded funding from ACE to run another iteration of their Radio Ghost experience, an audio driven, walking game for 3 players in a shopping mall. We are leading on the evaluation which assesses impact on audiences but also the organisations and partners involved. Find out more about the project here.

Designing frameworks for seven social change projects running at New Art Exchange. The team worked closely with the Artistic Director and the project teams to co-design evaluation that was fit for purpose specifically for 3 social change projects- YOULead, YOUnique, and YOUnity.

World Heart Beat is a music academic in Southwest London offering bespoke support and access to a diverse range of music to young people across London and the local area. 21 Artists is in the process of developing a Theory of Change and robust social impact evaluation framework so they can better understand the impact of their work on young people and the community.

Activate Feltham was a pilot project led by Battersea Arts Centre of The Agency, a youth creative entrepreneurship programme, in Feltham Young Offenders Institute in southwest London. The delivery was significantly impacted by Covid-19 so reporting focused on first stage of idea generation. The report that can be found here outlines the preliminary findings

Funded by King's College London, this iteration of Agents of Creative Change that was run by Battersea Arts Centre tested how researchers, artists and public and third sector professionals could engage with one another and come up with solutions to social issues that communities and charities were facing. In 2017, Battersea Arts Centre trialled a programmed called Creative Museums, using a creative methodology called Scratch to work with small museums around the UK to test ways they might be able to engage more of their staff and local communities in the design and implementation of exhibitions, workshops and events. The report here outlines the findings from the programme.
RESEARCH
Funded by King's College London, Kunlaboro brings together artists and arts leaders from Morocco, Chile and Uganda to better understand the impact of Covid on the arts sector in the Global South. For this research, there was a specific focus on music and visual arts sectors. Publication projected for October 2021.
EVALUATION & IMPACT
S.M.I.L.E.-ing Boys Project is an ongoing project led by artist Kay Rufai working with black young men in schools running workshops around the 8 Pillars of Happiness as outlined by the Happiness Institute. This project explores how these pillars relate to the lives of these young men using an arts-based approach. This report (download below) outlines preliminary findings.

Thus far, the project has been implemented in Elephant & Castle area of London in collaboration with Southwark Playhouse and Latin Elephant and in Canning Town in collaboration with Canning Town Caravanserai and Brickbox Ladies.
